Living In Woodridge2

Frequently Asked Questions - Woodridge Special Census

Will interviewers be going to every
household in Woodridge?

No, the Special Census will cover only select areas of the Village. The 2000 Decennial Census covered the entire Village. The 2008 Partial Special Census only covers areas that Village officials consider 'growth areas'. These growth areas include subdivisions and housing complexes that were constructed or have had growth since the last Special Census in 2004.

How long will the interviews take?
The door-to-door interviews usually last about 5-7 minutes, depending on the size of the household.

What happens if nobody is home when the Census Bureau interviewer arrives?
If nobody is home to answer the question of the interviewer, he or she will leave a card requesting the resident to complete the interview over the phone. After multiple attempts to reach a household, a proxy interview may be conducted. A proxy interview would entail a neighbor providing information about the household in question.

What kind of questions will be asked?
Residents will be asked to provide basic demographic information including number of people in the household, age, sex, race, date of birth, etc. No household information will be shared with the Village of Woodridge or any other government entity.

How can I identify a Special Census Employee?
All Special Census employees are required to wear and display a badge from the United States Census Bureau.

Is my information confidential?
Absolutely. The public is protected by Title 13, US Code. Only authorized US Census Bureau employees may see personally identifiable information. Results that could be used to identify an individual are not released. Census employees, including those hired on a temporary basis, swear under oath that they will not disclose any information gathered about individuals or businesses. Information collected by the Census Bureau is used only for statistical purposes--no one can obtain personal identifiable data from the Census Bureau.

When will the Special Census start?
The resident interviews will begin in mid to late June according to estimates given by the Census Bureau.

How long will the Special Census last?
The Special Census is expected to last 4-5 weeks. Census takers will be in the field for approximately 2-3 weeks.

Are Census Workers Local?
The Village recently recruited locally for the positions of enumerators, crew leaders and clerical staff.  The Village is no longer accepting candidates for the Census Worker Application process.
